Survey Indicates Retailers Don’t See eCommerce as Threat

A survey indicates that brick-and-mortar retailers feel confident that online shopping isn't hurting their business.

Marketing research firm Netsertive has released the results of a survey indicating that a majority of retailers do not see eCommerce as threat to their current business and 60 percent of respondents reported not expecting online retailer Amazon to impact their holiday sales.

According to the company, even with the rise of online retailers like Amazon, over 90 percent of all retail sales are still done in traditional brick-and-mortar stores. The company also suggests consumers are often using web-based shopping to determine gifts in advance, but frequently still purchase the products in person.

“With 90 percent of retail sales still taking place in stores, local businesses have a huge opportunity to drive online customers to brick-and-mortar locations this holiday season,” said Brendan Morrissey, CEO and co-founder of Netsertive. “Shoppers are using the Web to figure out what gifts to buy, choose brands and decide where to make a purchase. At Netsertive, we’re helping brands and their local retailers optimize their digital presence and execute compelling digital marketing campaigns at scale to reach customers along their entire path to purchase.”
