atd_charity_golf_donations_theindependencefundAmerican Tire Distributors Inc. donated $170,000 to three charitable organizations during its 27th annual ATD Charity Classic golf tournament.

“ATD is made up of people and partners who not only want to be the best in the business, but also want to support the communities in which we live and work,” said Stuart Schuette, CEO of ATD. “For nearly three decades, we provide an opportunity to give back through our charity tournament, and we want to thank all our partners whose generous contributions, along with ATD’s direct gift, have made it possible to support this year’s worthy recipients.”

The tire distributor donated $100,000 to The Independence Fund, an organization that helps severely injured veterans toward greater independence and is known for distributing customized wheelchairs to veterans to improve their mobility.

Two Charlotte-area nonprofits were also awarded donations, with Friendship Trays and Thompson each receiving a $35,000. Friendship Trays offers a “Meals on Wheels” program that delivers nutritious, diet specific meals to individuals throughout the community who are unable to prepare of purchase their own meals. Thompson is a provider of clinical and prevention services for children and families in need across Mecklenburg County.
