Conti Unveils New Tires

Continental Tire the Americas unveiled its two newest tires during a ride and drive this week at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Farmington, Pa. Announced during the tiremaker’s last dealer meeting, the TerrianContact A/T is Conti’s first ever all-terrain tire and the Grabber X3 is the new mud-terrain addition to Conti’s General brand.

The TerrainContact A/T will be available in September, is designed to deliver balanced on and off road performance for CUVs, SUVs and light trucks.

“This tire is the best balance of on and off-road performance and is ideal for the driver who spends roughly 90% of their time on-road and 10% off road,” said Travis Roffler, director of marketing for Continental Tire. “While this is a new segment for Continental Tire, we are confident that the hours and miles we’ve invested in testing this tire will pay off. We believe consumers will be extremely happy with the off-road durability and traction while also experiencing a quiet ride on-road.”

The TerrainContact A/T features Continental’s TractionPlus Technology to help provided traction and durability via an open pattern and large stable blocks, Continental said. The patented, +Silane, provides wet traction and a quiet, comfortable ride through noise blockers and pattern shifting. Additionally, the TerrainContact A/T provides all-season traction, traction grooves that lock snow for improved grip as well as full-depth sipes aid in snow and ice traction, Conti said.

The Terrain Contact A/T is backed by a 60-day customer satisfaction trial and road hazard coverage as well as a 72-month manufacturer’s limited warranty program. Also included is a 60,000 mile limited mileage warranty and three-year flat tire roadside assistance. The tire will be available in 35 sizes between 16-22 inch wheel diameters.

Continental also debuted a new General branded tire – the Grabber X3—during the ride and event as well.

The Grabber X3 is a mud-terrain tire, designed to provide “extreme” performance in mud, dirt and rocky conditions, Continental said.

“We are excited for the new Grabber X3 to join the strong line-up of off-road tires that General is known to provide,” said Roffler. “Over 3 years of research and development have gone into the development of the X3. We have anticipated the launch of the Grabber X3 into the mud-terrain market and we feel extremely confident that we have a product that will meet the demands required by those looking for this type of tire.”

The tire features a high void pattern design, evacuation channels and alternating shoulder scoops to assist with mud performance; block chamfers, traction notches and stone bumpers for performance in the dirt; and a multi-angle gripping edges, deflection ribs and pads, and sidewall lugs for performance in rocky conditions, Conti said.

Additionally, the tire features a 3-ply construction in all sizes and extra ultra-high strength steel belts.

The Grabber X3 will offer 29 total sizes between 15-to 20-inch wheel diameters.
