Lehigh Technologies Bringing Repurposed Rubber Tech to Europe

Atlanta, Ga.-based Lehigh Technologies, a company that produces sustainable raw materials from end-of-life tires and post-industrial rubber, has entered a joint venture with HERA Holding, a European waste resources company, to build the first micronized rubber powder (MRP) production facility in Europe.

The joint venture, Lehigh Spain, will construct the MRP plant as a HERA facility in Spain and will service Russia and the entire regions of Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Lehigh Technologies’ MRP is a sustainable raw material made from old tires and other post-industrial rubber that can be repurposed back into a tire and other goods to replace oil- and rubber-based materials, the company said. The material is ground down so small during a proprietary process that it has the consistency of flour, according the Lehigh Technologies.

The MRP plant will use this proprietary technology Lehigh Technologies has been using in the U.S. since 2006. The plant is currently being constructed and the first shipments are expected by the end of the first quarter 2017.

“HERA’s shared vision for creating sustainable solutions makes them an ideal partner for

Lehigh’s next phase of international expansion,” said Dr. Alan Barton, CEO of

Lehigh Technologies. “We are seeing a strong market reception for MRP as companies learn

that micronized rubber powder delivers a strong value proposition, and this new joint venture marks a critical step to meet that rapidly growing demand.”

The company currently offers a range of repurposed tire products, including PolyDyne, MicroDyne and EkoDyne. Lehigh Technologies ships to more than 18 countries.
