RMA President, CEO Retiring

Charles Cannon will retire from his post as the president and CEO of the Rubber Manufacturers Association at the end of this year. Charlie-Cannon

Cannon has served in the position for nearly eight years.

“I am very proud to have been asked to lead RMA during a time of many public policy challenges,” Cannon said. “The CEOs of RMA member companies are pro-active leaders in the industry and work cooperatively through RMA to establish public policy goals and objectives that promote consumer safety, environmental stewardship and a level competitive marketplace for tire manufacturing.”

According to the association, RMA became a tire manufacturer-only trade association during Cannon’s tenure. It also tackled a number issues such as tire service life, a rating system for fuel efficiency, tread wear and wet traction, the sale of unsafe used tires, minimum standards for rolling resistance and wet traction, and the federal tire registration system, the association noted.

“Charlie served our organization with energy, skill and vision, and the Board of Directors deeply appreciates his leadership,” said Pete Selleck, chairman and president of Michelin North America and chairman of RMA’s board of directors. “Charlie focused and strengthened RMA, and he retires with our thanks and our best wishes for the future.”

A search firm has been selected to advise the RMA board of directors and help select a new RMA president and CEO by late 2015. The search will be conducted by Russell Reynolds Associates.
