O’Reilly Buys VIP, Separates Tire Operation

O’Reilly Automotive has agreed to buy the auto parts-related assets of VIP Parts, Tires & Service. The deal is expected to close by the end of the year.

VIP Parts is described as a "large privately held automotive parts, tires and service chain in New England." Based in Lewiston, Maine, VIP Parts has 56 stores located throughout Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts, and a distribution center in Maine.

In 2001, VIP Parts was purchased by Quirk Tire of Watertown, Mass.
Quirk Tire converted into the full VIP format in 2001.

Once the deal is completed, VIP Parts will continue to own and operate the tire and service components of the business, with O’Reilly owning and operating the automotive parts sales and distribution operations of the business.

O’Reilly Automotive operates 3,896 stores in 39 states.

Don’t we want a consistent technology that can be fixed easily?” You may be on to something there, but TPMS technology currently relies on radio waves to transmit data. That means the radio spectrum the sensors use can be “noisy” with other nearby devices potentially causing interference with the sensor. It’s like someone interrupting you mid-sentence. Bluetooth sensors may be the answer to these radio-wave issues.
