With just hours to spare before its twice-extended contract expired. Goodyear and the United Steelworkers reached agreement on a new pact.
The new deal covers four years. No other details on the contract were made available.
Workers at seven Goodyear facilities Akron, Ohio; Buffalo, N.Y.; Danville, Va.; Fayetteville, N.C.; Gadsden, Ala.; Union City, Tenn.; and Topeka, Kan. are covered under the contract, and all must still ratify the contract.
"We are pleased that we have reached an agreement that accomplishes Goodyear’s bargaining goals and helps secure the future for its U.S. factories," said Jim Allen, Goodyear’s chief negotiator.
The tentative contract was reached at around 9 p.m. on Saturday, just three hours from the midnight deadline.
The deal leaves Bridgestone Americas as the only U.S. tiremaker still negotiating a new master contract. Earlier this month, the USW and Michelin North America came to a new three-year deal.
