Some 55 hourly employees at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.’s plant in Danville, Va., are being laid off, according to local reports.
DoDanRiver.com reports that Goodyear currently has about 2,300 employees. The layoff is happening across all departments, rather than affecting a single product line.
“We are continually adjusting our production schedule to align with our target market strategy and customer demand,” a company spokesperson told the site. “We’re not just producing volume for volume’s sake.”
Laid-off employees will have recall rights if openings become available in the future, the tiremaker added.
