Massachusetts-based Pete’s Tire Barns Inc. has acquired the commercial tire division of VIP Inc.’s Quirk Tire Co.
The combination of Pete’s Tire Barns and Quirk Tire will allow Pete’s to expand sales and service of giant tires, farm tires, industrial and truck tire markets within New England, the company said. The Westborough, Mass., location will become the 19th location for Pete’s Tire Barns, which operates locations in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont and New Hampshire.
“This acquisition improves our ability to provide a complete range of giant tires and industrial tires that Quirk was so well known for,” said Peter Gerry, Pete’s president.
VIP operates 56 total retail automotive stores in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. “It’s a bittersweet day for me today,” said John Quirk, president and CEO of VIP Parts, Tires and Services. “My grandfather started the commercial tire business 86 years ago in a 1,500-square-foot store in Watertown, Mass., changing customers’ tires curbside. I have many fond memories working with such great employees and customers and I loved the commercial business.
“Our customers will be in great hands with Peter Gerry and his leadership will help expand product range and services to our loyal customer base,” Quirk added. “The sale of the commercial tire division will allow VIP to make further investments into our auto parts and retail tire and service businesses.”
