No National Class Action in Carlisle Suit

(Akron/Tire Review) The Associated Press has reported that a product liability lawsuit by two Michigan men against Carlisle Tire & Wheel Co. has been denied national class-action status.

The judge in the case said the lawsuit lacked proof of "common legal issues," a point necessary to grant national class-action status.

Dennis Drooger of Holland, Mich., and Jeffrey Hunsaker of Byron Center, Mich., sued Carlisle Tire & Wheel, claiming their RV tires failed while they towed campers on a trip to northern Michigan. Their attorneys, said the report, claim that more than 100 similar complaints have been filed with federal safety regulators.

Carlisle has denied widespread problems and said the failure rate on the tires in question is less than 1%. The state case against Carlisle, however, remains pending.

Continental acquires mold specialist EMT for commercial and specialty tires

With the acquisition of EMT, Continental said it can independently produce tire molds for all applications if required.

Continental has acquired the mold manufacturing specialist EMT s.r.o. based in Púchov, Slovakia. All shares of Continental's long-standing supplier were transferred to Continental effective April 2. The tire manufacturer had entered into a respective agreement with EMT’s shareholders, Dynamic Design (Romania) being the majority shareholder. All 107 employees, who have specialist knowledge in mold manufacturing, have been taken on by Continental, the company said. Further details of the agreement were not disclosed.
