Goodyear Takes Wrangler to New Level With Pro-Grade Line

(Akron/Tire Review) Addressing the work truck segment of the market, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has launched an expansion of its Wrangler line.

The new Wrangler SilentArmor Pro-Grade delivers the “toughness and treadwear capability” desired by farmers, contractors, landscapers, boaters, horse enthusiasts “or any other professional or private pickup truck owner who regularly hauls or tows heavy loads,” the company said.

The new line is rolling out to dealers in 14 total LT-metric sizes – all load range E – covering 16-, 17-, 18- and 20-inch wheel diameters. Most of the 14 sizes will be available to dealers in early September, Goodyear said.

"Three-quarter and one-ton pickups generate more torque than full-size, half-ton trucks, and that extra torque can contribute to faster tread wear, especially on vehicles that are frequently loaded or towing," said Todd Hershberger, Goodyear general marketing manager for light truck/SUV tires. "The new Wrangler SilentArmor Pro-Grade helps provide a tough tread for those who use their trucks in heavy-duty, high-torque applications – all the while delivering the comfortable and quiet ride they expect from Wrangler with SilentArmor Technology."

The Wrangler SilentArmor Pro-Grade features a new chip- and chunk-resistant tread compound, two high-tensile steel belts and a layer of Kevlar. Some sizes will come with two layers of Kevlar, said Goodyear.

The tire also features Goodyear’s Durawall sidewall rubber compound to help resist punctures and cuts. Durawall is also used in the tread to enhance resistance to rock drilling in the tread grooves.

The tire’s tread pattern delivers a consistent tread contact patch at a variety of load and speed conditions, said Goodyear, to maximize traction in all conditions, enhance tread life and resist uneven wear. The M&S rated tire also carries the mountain snowflake symbol, certifying it for "severe snow” usage.

With the Wrangler SilentArmor Pro-Grade, consumers will receive a 50,000-mile limited treadwear warranty, 30-day no obligation trial period, nationwide warranty service and off-road assistance.
