AMRA Announces New, Web-Based MAP Standards

The Automotive Maintenance and Repair Association (AMRA) has recently made its Motorist Assurance Program (MAP) Uniform Inspection and Communication Standards (UICS) available to its members via the internet.

The Automotive Maintenance and Repair Association (AMRA) has recently made its Motorist Assurance Program (MAP) Uniform Inspection and Communication Standards (UICS) available to its members via the Internet.

“Traditionally, MAP UIC Standards have been made available in a downloadable, printable document format. If you are one of our service provider members with thousands of locations, printing our standards becomes very costly, ” said Barry Soltz, AMRA president.

The Motorist Assurance Program is well-known for its documented industry standards. Over the past 20-plus years, MAP standards have grown to exceed 1,000 pages.

AMRA/MAP has reformatted its familiar “Conditions, Codes and Procedures” into a searchable database. All MAP UIC Standards are now available to technicians of AMRA member companies via a secure link from the member company’s intranet.

MAP’s new electronic version of its standards–the e-UICS looks and functions just like an Internet web-browser. A member tech or service adviser simply types in a search term for a familiar automotive component, and all MAP “Conditions, Codes and Procedures” for that component display on the screen.

Features include translations into Spanish and French and links to glossary term definitions on every page. Illustrations are available for many key components, along with links to other critical information regarding that component or service. Each page is printable so it can be shared with a consumer, and technicians can email comments regarding content of the e-UICS directly to AMRA/MAP offices.
