Hankook Tire Co. opened a global plant yesterday in Lippo Cikarang, Bekasi, West Java.
“Today’s commemoration of Indonesia plant opening marks yet another milestone in Hankook Tire’s ongoing growth as a global top-tier tire company. This is also a clear manifestation of our strong will and commitment for further growth together with Indonesia and other emerging economies,” said Mr. Seung Hwa Suh, vice chairman and CEO of Hankook Tire.
Hankook’s newest global plant, and its seventh, will serve as an export base for both North America and the Middle East as well as a business hub for its Asian market.
Covering 60 hectares, the plant is equipped to produce passenger tires, ultra-high performance tires and light truck tires. With roughly a capacity of six million tires a year, 30% of those tires are allocated for the Indonesian market while the remaining 70% will be exported, the tiremaker said.
The South Korea-based company broke ground on its newest plant in June 2011.
Currently the plant employees 1,400 staff members, but will increase that to 4,300 by 2018.
