Knowledge Is Power - Tire Review Magazine

Knowledge Is Power

I want to create a scenario about three guys who decided to open a trucking company. Each of them had a truck and each was responsible for the tires on his own truck.

Their names are Paul Abelson, Al Cohn and Asa Sharp, names that might be familiar to you if you read trucking magazines.

These three guys probably have more than 100 years of knowledge about how to properly care for tires, whether they are new tires or retreads.

What kind of tire problems do you think they would have with their fleet of three trucks? If you answered “next to none” you would be correct.

Why would they have nearly no problems with their tires?

The answer is simple. They understand exactly what MUST be done to properly maintain their tires, such as:

• Check the air pressure in their tires on a regular basis using a calibrated tire gauge, and be certain their tires contained the proper amount of air for the load they were carrying.

• Never believe (even for a minute) that they can tell if their tires need air by thumping them.

• Do a daily walk around their trucks and use the “dirty hand” test on their tires to determine if there any anomalies that might be invisible to the naked eye, but would be quickly apparent to the hand.

• Keep their truck properly aligned and have the alignment checked on a regular basis.

• Keep up with the latest articles about tires by reading trucking magazines, visiting trucking sites on the web and paying attention to the latest information available from tire manufacturers.

• Rotating their tires as needed and making a knowledgeable tire dealer their best friend.

• Maintaining a normal steady speed because they know that excessive speed generates heat and heat is the enemy of a tire.

• Understanding that the up-front cost of a tire can often wind up being a very expensive mistake, because the only real meaningful cost is the life cycle cost –this means that a top grade, more expensive tire can often be the best value over the life of the tire.

Now, because these three bright guys aren’t doing this for a hobby, they insist on using retreads. Why? Because they are bright guys and they understand that a top quality retread can have an adjustment (problem) rate actually lower than a comparable new tire and they can save 50% or more over the cost of just running virgin tires.

Because they are also good citizens, they also understand that retreads are far more environmentally friendly than comparable new tires.

So let’s sum up: Of all the things these three guys know about tires, the most important is that knowledge is power. They understand that the knowledge is out there for the asking, which is why they ask and learn. In this scenario, they always read the materials put out by the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau and they are always open to learning new ideas about how to take care of their tires.

We said they were bright, didn’t we?

If you want to be bright like Paul, Al and Asa, let us send you our latest CD and DVD about tires. Our materials cover the economic and environmental benefits offered by retreads as well as loads of information about proper tire maintenance for both retreads and new tires.

There is no cost for our materials and they can be ordered by sending an email to [email protected], or by calling our toll free number 888-473-8732 from anywhere in North America. Just ask for the Truckers Packet and you can soon be as bright as these three guys (who have no idea we have used their names in our scenario).

Remember, Knowledge is power! It really is. So get the power by getting the knowledge. Send that email or call today. The rest is up to you. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. What are you waiting for?
