Retired Bandag Inc. executive and Tire Industry Hall of Famer Harold H. Vischer Sr., 95, died on July 17.
He died of natural causes at the at Allegiance Hospice Home in Jackson, Mich.
Vischer was born in Toledo, Ohio, on Oct. 17, 1914, and graduated from that city’s Whitmer High School where he met his future wife, DeNell Meyers. They married Feb. 18, 1938, in Toledo.
After graduating from the University of Toledo with a business administration degree, Vischer worked for Firestone Tire & Rubber Co., eventually rising to vice president of sales. After 24 years with Firestone, Vischer quit in a dispute and moved on to Bandag in 1961, where was instrumental in that company’s domestic and international growth.
After retiring from Bandag in 1980, Vischer moved to Brooklyn, Mich., where he spent his time gardening and tending to his family. He was elected to the Tire Industry Hall of Fame in 1988.
His wife preceded him in death in 1995. Vischer is survived by sons, Harold Jr., Robert and Michael; daughters, Jackie Matthews and Cynthia Harvey; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
