Tennessee Fire Actually Destroyed Retreader
The fire first reported by eastern Tennessee media as destroying a local retail tire store actually leveled a retread plant. No one was injured in the Oct. 7 fire at Imperial Tire Services in Maynardsville, Tenn., which investigators now think was started when sparks from an exhaust fan motor ignited fumes from a glue machine.

Firefighters from several eastern Tennessee communities battled a huge fire on Oct. 7 at a Maynardsville, Tenn., tire dealership. Goodyear Closes Tennessee Plant Early
Finding that it was able to reassign production needs to other plants faster than anticipated, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has officially ceased tire production at its Union City, Tenn., plant. On Feb. 10, Goodyear had announced its intention to close the plant by the end of 2011, effectively putting 1,800 people out of work.
