Yokohama HPT Instrumental In Donut World Records

(Clacton, U.K./Tyres & Accessories) Yokohama HPT was instrumental in stunt driver Terry Grant’s success in claiming two new world records at last month’s Autosport International show.

Grant chose Yokohama tyres and TSW alloy wheels for the cars he used to shatter the existing records for performing donuts.

As Grant was the previous record holder, he was aiming to smash own achievement for the number of cars performing donuts simultaneously by a single driver. The technique involved setting one car donutting, locking the throttle and steering, leaving the spinning car, getting into another car and repeating the process. Grant’s previous record was for three cars but he went one better to set the record with four cars concurrently donutting, to rapturous applause from the audience in the show’s Live Action Arena.

This feat was carried out using three Legends race cars, 5/8-scale replicas of classic American cars and powered by motorcycle engines, along with Grant’s TVR Tamora.

The second record was previously held by another driver and was for the time taken to perform 10 donuts. The existing time was 16.7 seconds but Grant shaved almost two seconds off this, to claim the record in 14.87 seconds. The task was carried out in a 2.5-litre Subaru Impreza, which Grant developed specifically for his famous stunt routine.

To know where you’re going, you have to know where you’ve been. For Babcox Media’s Joe Keene, an ASE-certified technician charged with fixing up a rare Lincoln Blackwood, it means heading back to Transtar Autobody Technologies in Detroit to put the finishing touches on the Blackwood. Then, he’ll put Babcox Media HQ in the rearview mirror as he heads out on the Lincoln Highway on his way to AAPEX. One of his first stops is the Studebaker Museum in South Bend, Ind., where he hopes to bridge the connection between the automotive industry’s past and its future.
