Yokohama Expanding OTR Production Capacity by 50%

(Akron/Tire Review) Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. says it is expanding its Onomichi, Japan, tire plant, a move that will boost production capacity for OTR tires by some 50%.

Work has already begun on the expansion, Yokohama said, and production there should start by November.

The project will increase Yokohama’s monthly OTR tire production capacity to 1,620 tons by 2009, up from 1,100 tons today.

Demand outside Japan accounts for about 80% of Yokohama’s OTR business.

The increased production will supply 25-, 33-, and 35-inch radial tires, used primarily on construction and mining equipment.
