WTE Done, TIA Plans New Truck Tire Event During TMC

(Akron/Tire Review) The World Tire Expo is no more, and Louisville will apparently not be the host for future TIA conferences.

The tire industry group announced that it will hold the first TIA Commercial Tire & Retreading Conference next February in conjunction with the American Trucking Associations’ annual Technology and Maintenance Council (TMC) conference, which will be held in Tampa on Feb. 6-8.

“By holding these two events at the Tampa Convention Center, exhibitors will have the opportunity for the first time to meet not only buyers in the trucking industry, but also decision makers in the commercial and retreading markets,” TIA said in its announcement. “Conference registrants will have the opportunity to attend the TMC exhibition, various TIA seminars, workshops, and panel discussions with industry experts during the conference.”

Over its last three meetings, the biannual WTE had suffered from declining interest and attendance. TIA officials were buoyed by the 2005 conference and trade show, which had pretty solid attendance but considerably smaller trade show space.

“We are very excited about the new tradition we will be starting in 2007 with TIA’s Commercial Tire & Retreading Conference,” said TIA President Bob Malerba. “We are committed to providing the commercial and retread industries with an event to educate personnel, exchange ideas, and meet with suppliers and manufacturers. By holding our conference in conjunction with TMC’s exhibition, both groups will benefit.”
