Unipneu Opens New Distribution Centre

(Longueuil, Quebec/Tire News) The new Unipneu stronghold, located on J.-Armand Bombardier Street in Boucherville, Quebec, spreads over 400,000 square feet and is quite impressive.

This $17 million structure, which officially opened Mar. 21, stores an inventory of more than 5,000 different types and sizes of tires, reflecting the network’s image and the company’s ambitious plans of growth.

The facility, built with the use of the latest technologies in construction and safety, allows Unipneu to multiply its supplies capacity by 10, and handle any future increase in volume.

It is equipped with an automated tire collection system that makes optimal use of warehousing space and ensures the efficient management of manpower. In addition, the Unipneu training centre, located on the second floor, can now accommodate twice as many people.

Unipneu, a company whose growth over the past 10 years has been tremendous, said it is now well equipped to supply the Maritimes, Ontario and western Canada.

“This investment is a milestone in logistics for our company,” emphasized both Denis Desharnais, chairman of the board, and RenÉ GÉlinas, CEO. The mega centre’s strategic location will allow the company to supply the entire Canadian market before the end of next year, and keep the pace for years to come.

Founded in 1979, Unipneu now has 83 associate merchants and supplies 215 MÉgapneu affiliated retailers. Together, the head office and the warehouse centre count a labour force of about 60 people. Among the different brands of tires available for automobiles, pick ups, trucks, and heavy and industrial equipment there are – BFGoodrich, BKT, Continental, Dunlop, General, Goodyear, Michelin, Pirelli, Dean, Kelly, Tireco, Toyo, Uniroyal, Viking and Yokohama.
