Tristani Rubber President Dies

John Sherwood, president of Tristani Rubber Industries in San Juan, Puerto Rico, died on June 21.

Sherwood founded Tristani Rubber industries with his brother and a business school friend in 1970 to manufacture tread rubber for Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Sherwood and his brother eventually bought out their partner, and the business later expanded to provide custom rubber compounding, passenger and truck tire retreading.

Originally from Beaumont, Texas, Sherwood graduated from the University of Texas with a master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1958. While in the U.S Air Force, Sherwood was stationed in Guam as a first lieutenant and the island’s petroleum officer. Sherwood worked for Carter Oil in Oklahoma after leaving the Air Force and received an MBA from Harvard’s Graduate Business School in 1965. Before founding Tristani, Sherwood worked for Boise Cascade in San Francisco.

Sherwood is survived by his brother Robert and wife Sylvine.
