Triangle Group Co. began production of high-performance passenger car tires at its newest plant in China, located in the Weihai Nanhai New District in Shandong Province.
Triangle announced plans to build the facility at the 2013 SEMA Show. The new facility is part of a $1 billion investment that will also fund testing grounds and living quarters for workers, according to the tiremaker.
The new facility will operate under Triangle Group Huayang Co., a subsidiary of Triangle Group, and is the fifth plant for the company.
The plant features the latest production equipment and uses automation throughout production, reducing the number of employees.
Phase 1 capacity of the plant is 4 million units a year, with the potential to double to 8 million, Triangle said.
Tires produced at the factory are expected to be exported to markets such as Northern Europe, Russia, and North America.
