Yokohama Tire Corp. is hosting the so-called "tree guru" as part of a week-long series of eco-themed events at its Fullerton, Calif., headquarters.
The tiremaker’s "Green Week," Nov. 30-Dec. 3, will feature a visit by tree expert Dr. Akira Miyawaki who is coming to Fullerton to assist with the planting of 500 seedlings at Yokohama’s U.S. headquarters.
“Dr. Miyawaki is highly regarded around the world, and all of us at Yokohama are honored that he is visiting our facility for this project,” said Takao Oishi, president and CEO. “Our company’s slogan is ‘excellence by nature,’ and these events reflect our commitment towards environmental preservation, while hopefully honoring and recognizing Dr. Miyawaki, too.”
Over the course of his career, Dr. Miyawaki has helped lead or organize the planting of more than 30 million trees at over 1,600 locations around the world. He currently is working with Yokohama to plant half a million trees over a 10-year period at the company’s 17 locations around the globe, prior to Yokohama Rubber Co.’s 100-year anniversary in 2017.
Other “green” events conducted by Yokohama during the week include an electronics recycling program; a free tire clinic and inspection for the public; and a tree-planting session with students at a local elementary school.
