Toyo Sponsors Pac-10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards

Toyo Tire (USA) Corp. is now the new presenting sponsor of the Pac-10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards, which will provide scholarships recognizing athletes competing in 22 Pac-10 sports.

Each Pac-10 institution will nominate one individual per sport, and the winners will be selected at the conclusion of each sport’s regular season.

“Toyo is proud to support the Pac-10 and to acknowledge outstanding student-athletes for their efforts,” said Steve Hutchinson, Toyo’s senior director of marketing. “By supporting today’s achievers, we feel we are helping to grow tomorrow’s leaders.”

The Scholar-Athletes of the Year in each sport will receive a commemorative award, and Toyo will donate $1,000 to the scholarship fund of that student’s athletic department.

The first Pac-10 Scholar-Athletes of the Year have been selected, covering cross country, football, soccer and volleyball. They include: Spencer Larsen, University of Arizona (football); Angie Pressey, University of California at Berkeley (volleyball); Kevin Forrest, University of Washington (soccer); Neftalem Araia, Stanford University (cross country); Rachel Buehler, Stanford University (soccer); and Arianna Lambie, Stanford University (cross country).
