The Hindu Business Standard reported that five Indian tiremakers have been absolved of "charges of cartelization."
The five tire companies absolved of price fixing charges by the Competition Commission of India are Apollo Tyres, MRF Ltd., JK Tyres and Industries, Birla Tyres Ltd. and Ceat Tyres Ltd.
“In a majority decision, the CCI said that the available evidence does not give enough proof that tire companies/Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association acting together have limited and controlled the production and price of tires in the market in India,” the newspaper said.
The companies were investigated by the CCI after complaints by tire retailers in June 2010. Now, dealers represented by All India Tyre Dealers Federation said that they will appeal the CCI’s decision.
