Tar Heel Tire was recognized at a luncheon on May 10. “It was certainly an honor,” said Tar Heel Tire Vice President Kenny Clayton. “We are very proud to be able to win the award.”

Tar Heel Tire opened its doors on April 1, 1965, founded by Eddie Clayton, Kenny’s father. The business moved to its current location in Warrenton in 1997, and Eddie sort of retired in 2009, though he remains a fixture at and self-appointed “past due collector” for the dealership.

The next generation of Claytons is already working at the dealership: Kenny’s son, Brooks, serves as general manager and works in sales, and daughter, Meredith Kelly, works in bookkeeping.
