Sumitomo Produces First North American-Made Falken Tire

SumitomoSumitomo Rubber USA (SRUSA) has cured its first Falken brand tire in North America at its plant in Buffalo, N.Y.

“It’s great to see the first Falken-branded tire come out of SRUSA,” said Kenji Onga, SRUSA CEO and chairman, and Sumitomo Rubber North America chairman. “Due to our domestic manufacturing, the tires that come out of Buffalo will enhance the level of service and increase the speed at which product is received for our customers.”

The Buffalo facility, acquired from Goodyear when the companies dissolved their alliance, is still in trial production and tires made at the plant are scheduled to ship in the fourth quarter of 2016.

Falken Tire Corp. changed its name to Sumitomo Rubber North America Inc. effective Jan. 1, 2016. The change is part of Sumitomo Rubber Industries’ business realignment.

Gramegna has held senior positions in companies such as Yokohama and Trelleborg.
