Tire workers across South Africa went on strike Aug. 30, a nationwide job action that appears to have no immediate resolution.
The National Union of Metalworkers (NUMSA) called for the strike after its attempts to gain a “living wage” from tiremakers was rebuffed.
The strike has impacted tire plants owned and operated by Dunlop, Bridgestone and Continental, among others.
NUMSA said that it had been negotiating for wage increases and an improvement in working conditions for almost three months without a settlement.
