Smithers Rapra will give a presentation on tire design for autonomous vehicles during the 2016 Clemson Tire Conference in Hilton Head Island, S.C., April 13-15.
“The developments in technology related to advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) have, to date, primarily focused on safety and convenience features,” said James Popio, Smithers Rapra’s vice president for North America. “With our extensive expertise in tire development and testing, we see numerous factors that affect what will be needed from tires in order to ensure safety in these future vehicles. It’s an honor to have Dean present these considerations to such an esteemed audience.”
Dean Tener, Smithers Rapra’s business development manager for Tire Testing, will present “Tire Design and Selection Implications for Autonomous Vehicles,” as part of “Session 3: Tire Industry Outlook: Regulatory, Legislative, and Economic” on April 14.
Tener will discuss the implications of changes to vehicle powertrains and vehicle interactions with the road as controls move to autonomous functions. The presentation will also cover potential tire design considerations for autonomous vehicles.
