Run-Flat Tyres at a Catwalk Show?

(Clacton, U.K./Tyres & Accessories) A series of exclusive sofas and armchairs customised from Goodyear tyres by Italian designer Zak and fashion label Cavalli were unveiled at the 2006 Milan Fashion Week.

Zak was originally commissioned by Goodyear to design some pieces in June 2005. The company’s brief was to “recreate in the home the relaxed and comfortable state that drivers have on the road thanks to Goodyear RunOnFlat tyres.” Andrea Zaccone, Zak’s designer based in Milan and Barcelona, created an innovative sofa, chair, chaise-lounge and kissing seat out of the RunOnFlat tyres which were customised with animal print and bright colours.

Following the success of the pieces in the Italian market, Goodyear and Zak then collaborated with famous Italian fashion label Cavalli (founded by Roberto Cavalli; designer of show business celebrities) to create three signature pieces from Goodyear RunOnFlat tyres which were finished with the fashion house’s signature fabric.

Each unique piece cost £3,000-£5,000 to create and are currently housed in the Cavelli showroom.  James Bailey of Goodyear UK said: “Our Italian colleagues were looking for an innovative way to communicate that by running for 50 miles after a puncture, RunOnFlat tyres can offer calm and comfort. Their work in embodying this in collection of furnishings is a creative way of transferring this feeling and our underlying message from the road and into the home.”
