Rollier: No Plans For Another Partner

(Akron/Tire Review) Groupe Michelin managing partner Michel Rollier said that he has no plans to appoint another managing partner for the tire giant anytime soon.

Rollier made the comments during a press conference at the start of the 2006 Challenge Bibendum global transportation conference, which opened in Paris.

Rollier remains the company’s lone managing partner in the wake of the death of Edouard Michelin in a fishing accident last month.

“Today my decision is to stay alone,” Rollier told the Financial Times, saying he also had no plans to ask retired managing partner Rene Zingraff to return to duty.

Rollier also told FT that despite rumors, he has no plans to cut jobs to improve productivity and reduce labor costs. He said that Michelin’s labor costs will decline naturally as workers retire. “If we are successful in the implementation of this strategy, we will be competitive with any other tiremaker,” he said.
