Sentury Tire is considering setting up a manufacturing facility in the Memphis, Tenn., area, according to The Atlanta Business Chronicle.
The proposed plant would cost $500 million and cover 545 to 560 acres. Construction is reportedly starting next year and by 2019 is expected to produce 50 million tires annually.
Currently, Sentury provides the U.S. with tires from its factory in China and Thailand.
Late last year, executive vice president Rami Helminen shared details with Tyres & Accessories about the U.S. factory project he’d been hired to head. He disclosed that “hundreds of millions of U.S. dollars” would be invested in a factory, and that a search for a suitable site was already underway, T&A reported.
