There have been widespread reports of striking workers, frustrated with the lack of progress and dealing with financial issues, crossing the picket lines to return to work at most of the 16 Goodyear plants currently being struck by the USW.
There have also been a number of reports, again unconfirmed, that striking workers have been harassing and intimidating workers who cross the picket lines, going so far as to visiting the workers’ homes with megaphones and pickets.
While Monday’s telephone conference was described “contentious,” unconfirmed reports say that the Local presidents plan to wait until after Goodyear’s scheduled Dec. 5 board of director’s meeting before making any moves. The union either expects the board to force a change in the tiremaker’s current contract offer, or it will approach Goodyear to restart contract negotiations.
Talks broke off Nov. 17 just days after the two sides got back to the bargaining table for the first time since Steelworkers walked off the job Oct. 5.
