Petlas is rolling out a new winter tire pattern: the Glacier W661. The company is also planning to offer an adaptation of the tire suitable for 4×4’s, SUVs and crossovers: the Explero Ice W681.
The Glacier W661 provides a combination of grip and braking performance, the company says. The multi-faceted claws located between the blocks and shoulder provide a firm contact with the snowy or icy surface and transfer full acceleration and braking power to the road. The pattern also offers predictable and precise handling, Petlas added.
In addition, the multi-level block sides help provide persistent grip on icy roads and the pattern is designed to avoid the risk of slush planning with its transverse grooves, Petlas said. The tread compound responds to varying weather temperatures.
Glacier W661 is designed and developed in Petlas’ production facilities in Kırsehir, located in the Anatolian steppes. The prototypes were tested at the in-house testing laboratories and the company’s own test track.
The new tire, which is three-peak mountain certified, is currently available in three sizes with reinforced sidewalls: 215/50 R17, 225/50 R17 and 225/45 R17 and Petlas is expanding the size range by offering 14 additional sizes ranging from 13- to 17-inch fitments.
