Park Joo-hyung, daughter of chairman and chief executive Park Chan-koo, has been appointed senior vice president of Kumho Petrochemical, the Korean Times reported.
This is the first time for Kumho Asiana Group to name a female to a chief executive post, the company said. Traditionally the company banned women from participating in group management.
“The Park family’s broad management agreement stipulates that female spouses of sons, their daughters and the daughters’ male spouses are banned from making key management decisions and inheriting stakes in the company,” a company spokesman said. Park Joo-hyung’s appointment breaks this tradition.
Park Joo-hyung, 35, graduated from Ewha Womans University and went to New York for a training program at Parsons School of Design
She is the only woman among Kumho Petrochemical’s biggest shareholders, with a 0.6% stake, the Korean Times reported.
