A Nitto Tire USA-sponsored documentary, “Journey to Washigton,” will be shown inflight on All Nippon Airways and Hawaiian Airlines flights starting in October. The film is about the late U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Inouye of Hawaii who served in the Senate from January 1963 to his death in December 2012.
"As a Japanese company doing business in the U.S., we believe that it is very important to do our best to contribute and give back to the U.S. community," said Tomo Mizutani, president of Nitto Tire USA. "Sen. Inouye was an exceptional role model and devoted supporter of the Japanese-American community, and he exemplified the highest values in a lifelong commitment to public service."
The film follows the life of Inouye and features several interviews including some from the senator. Inouye experienced the pain of being labeled the enemy during World War II despite his American citizenship, but still joined the 442nd Regimental Combat Team to prove his loyalty to the U.S. he went on to be the first Japanese-American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and then the Senate.
Nitto has previously sponsored a documentary about Japanese American interment during WWII that was shown of ANA flights.
