The video series shows the impact of winter tires vs. all-season tires on different vehicle configurations, such as all-wheel drive trucks, rear wheel cars and trucks, and front wheel drive vehicles. The videos were shot last winter near Ottawa, and have been placed online at RAC’s Web site, www.betiresmart.ca.
“Winter tires are not just for getting through snow, they are specifically designed for road conditions when temperatures reach below 7 degrees Celsius,” says Gilles Paquette, RAC’s communications manager. “At colder temperatures, conventional all-season tires begin to lose elasticity, resulting in reduced traction, longer stopping distances and reduced handling and cornering capability. The new ‘winter’ tires retain their elasticity to grip roads at much lower temperatures.” (Tire Review/Akron)
