Daily Reflector (Greenville, N.C.) Pugh’s Tire and Service Centers steps into a new era in its 64-year history today with the opening of a new location at 1205 Dickinson Ave. at the corner of 14th Street and Dickinson Avenue.
Pugh’s moved its 729 Dickinson Ave. store to the new location, which was formerly Sutton Tire Co.
Pugh’s also operates three other locations in Greenville at 726 S.E. Greenville Blvd. in front of at the Greenville Mall, at 3303 S. Memorial Drive, and at 408 S. Greene St.
The new location will include Pugh’s Auto Parts and all tire warehouse operations for the four stores and their wholesale division.
Jimmy Sutton from Sutton Tire has joined the Pugh’s staff and will serve as tire manager at the new location, which features 17 work bays, a customer waiting area and wireless Internet.
"Pugh’s Tire and Service Centers prides itself on its knowledgeable staff of highly motivated and carefully trained technicians people who know and understand your automotive needs and respond to them in a personal and friendly manner," Stacey Pugh, who manages the Greenville Boulevard store, said in a news release. "We have been in the Greenville and Pitt County community since 1945, offering complete automotive service centers at all four locations, national/fleet accounts, state inspections and tires from Bridgestone, Firestone and Michelin."
Pugh’s is also now associated with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co.
Pugh’s was founded in 1945 by George Pugh and his wife, Margie, and they worked side by side daily, except for the time she stayed at home to raise their four children.
Margie passed away in December 2002.
Four generations of the family are now a part of Pugh’s Tire Service. Sammy Pugh, the son of George and Margie, joined the business in 1962 and continues to operate the Greene Street location. Four grandsons Stacey Pugh, Frankie Pugh, Stephen Pugh and Chris Stokes joined the business during the 1980s and 1990s. The fourth generation, great-grandson Colby Pugh, joined the business this past summer.
