Neighboring Thief Busted by Tire Dealers

A Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, man was arrested last week after the owners of a tire store in the city caught him trying to steal from their shop.

Doug Creamer and his son, owners of Best Tire & Auto, had an inkling of who had been stealing thousands of dollars worth of inventory from their business. The men told local media Best Tire had been robbed at least eight times in the past few months, with thefts ranging from tires to aluminum and steel.

The men had been suspicious their inventory was being stored at a locked building next door to their business, but were not able to prove it. According to local reports, they waited inside the shop after closing until the suspected thief arrived, and they witnessed their stolen items inside the nearby building.

When police arrived, they found Creamer and his son had detained 40-year-old Mathew Afana. Police found $5,000 worth of tires in the neighboring building, all of which had been taken from Best Tire.

Afana was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property.
