MNA Among Top Employers for Those Over 50

Michelin North America, based in Greenville, S.C., was among the group of companies named to the AARP list of 2009 Best Employers for Workers Over 50.

This marks the fourth time the tiremaker has received this AARP honor. Michelin improved its standing over 2008, moving up six spots to number 37 on the list. The complete list can be found at\bestemployers.

Michelin’s new employee health care program, Choose Well-Live Well, contributed to the company’s forward movement on this year’s list. This innovative program encourages proactive steps toward health and wellness, and aims to significantly improve quality of life for all Michelin employees, including those over 50.

Michelin North America also offers a variety of creative programs for experienced workers, including full-day pre-retirement seminars that prepare and educate employees and their spouses who are nearing retirement. The company’s phased retirement program provides many employees over the age of 55 with 10 or more years of service the opportunity to work a reduced schedule (up to 35 hours per week) while maintaining their benefits. More than 35% of the company’s employees are over the age of 50 and the average tenure of those employees is 24 years, according to AARP.

“Michelin is proud to be recognized once again by the AARP with this award,” said Dick Wilkerson, chairman and president of Michelin North America. “Michelin values our many employees over the age of 50 whose expertise, knowledge and skills continue to make us the world’s leading tire company.”
