Mississippi Tire Company Buys Mileage Masters

(The Journal Record) Southern Tire Mart of Columbia, Miss., has acquired the Tulsa tire and fleet management company Mileage Masters for an undisclosed price.

Founded in 1984 by Mike Hamsher, Mileage Masters had grown to 11 locations and three tire retread plants in Oklahoma and Arkansas, providing services for commercial and consumer vehicles.

Besides its Tulsa store, Mileage Masters operated Sooner State outlets in Oklahoma City, Ardmore and Enid. It ran retread plants in Tulsa and Oklahoma City.

The 220-employee Mileage Masters charted $50 million in sales last year, its plants retreading about 500 medium truck tires daily.

Although the Southern Tire name replaced Mileage Masters signs in November, some of the sale’s financial details have just been completed.

Under the name Duff Real Estate LLC, Tulsa County Courthouse records indicate Southern Tire paid $3.2 million to Mileage Masters LLC for the 34,411-square-foot offices and maintenance facility at 40 N. 129th East Ave., a block from Interstates 44 and 244 in east Tulsa. That deal included 19 mostly undeveloped acres, about half sitting in a flood plain.

Duff Real Estate paid $840,000 for the former Mileage Masters home office at 2740 Southwest Blvd. in west Tulsa, according to county records.

Oklahoma County Courthouse records continue to list the two Oklahoma City properties, 605 N. Meridian Ave. and 703 N. Meridian, under Tulsa-based Mileage Masters.

Southern Tire Mart representatives in Mississippi referred questions on the sale to local offices. Officials at the Tulsa offices referred questions to Hamsher, who remained with Southern Tire after the sale. Hamsher could not be reached for comment.

Managed by James and Thomas Duff, Southern Tire Mart employs 1,200 workers across eight states through a fleet of 53 commercial stores, 17 retread plants and one retail store. (Tire Review/Akron)
