Michelin Renews Mining Essay Contest

(Akron/Tire Review) Michelin North America’s (MNA) earthmover tires group will accept entries for its second annual Michelin Mining Essay Contest. Two winners will be selected, each earning a $3,000 prize.

MNA said the contest is open to all full-time college students in the U.S. and Canada pursuing a degree in a mining specific field at an accredited university. To be eligible, students must have at least 30 credit hours completed and not be scheduled to graduate before spring 2007. Essays must be received by Oct. 31.

A panel of judges from the mining industry will select the winners, said MNA, and selection will be based on whether the essay addresses and answers the topic chosen, originality, writing ability and communications skills.

“We are pleased to note how well the initial year of our contest was received,” said James Griese, MNA’s director of earthmover tire sales. “These students are the leaders of tomorrow’s mining industry. This contest allows Michelin to be a part of their education and to continue its commitment of strengthening the future of this industry’s greatest asset – its people.”

There is no cost to apply. Winners will be announced in December 2006. Contact MNA for contest details and entry inforamtion.
