When it comes to UHP tires, Michelin is tops, according to a recent Consumer Reports test. Goodyear, Nokian and Pirelli radials also scored well.
Consumer Reports tested 48 models of UHP summer, all-season and performance winter tires for its annual new tire ratings. The tires were subject to a regiment of tests that included, braking, handling on wet and dry pavement, hydroplane resistance as well as snow grip, and fuel economy.
The tests found that for UHP summer tires, Pirelli P Zero and Michelin Pilot Super Sport were the best among 21 other tires. For UHP all season Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 came in first with Goodyear’s Eagle F1 Asymmetric All-Season in second with slightly lower dry braking and handling. For winter performance tires the Nokian WR G3 and Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 were top with the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 being “outstanding” for winter grip is someone was to routinely drive in snow.
