The capital improvement will result in 36 additional jobs at the facility, said MNA.
Nova Scotia has promised $4.38 million in government support to help facilitate the expansion work. Once done in 2008, the plant improvement will increase the plant’s cable production capacity by 11%, MNA said.
The Bridgewater plant produces steel cord used by MNA in its medium truck and OTR tires, supplied to Michelin tire plants in Waterville, Nova Scotia, and Lexington, S.C.
Michelin’s plans for expansion include the addition of about 8,700 square meters to the existing plant structure, modernization of cabling process machinery, and the addition of technical and manufacturing employees.
