The city of Memphis, deep in an investigation of its tire service contracts involving one independent tire dealer, has hired another to take over service to the entire city vehicle fleet.
Big Foot Tire and Trucking has taken over the contract, and will now service and repair the city’s 7,000-vehicle fleet of passenger, light truck and medium/heavy truck tires.
Memphis fired its last tire service contractor Around Town Tire and Trucking during an investigation that has uncovered widespread waste and abuse. The city took over much of the tire services, but discovered it was under-staffed and under-equipped to handle the workload.
Big Foot was hired in June under a temporary contract that was renewed this month. The city still plans to put the entire contract out for bid, but is waiting until it has a better idea of the cost and number of service calls required.
