Man Stole Police Car to Sell Its Tires

(The Australian) A man in Mexico stole an empty police car and crashed it into a garbage dumpster at the end of a two-hour joy ride, and apparently had other plans.

"When I found the car and I saw it had the key in the ignition, well, I just got in," foiled car thief Alejandro Juarez said in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

"I was thinking about taking off the tyres so I could sell them," he said.

"But then I was thinking first I would take it for a spin – and then bam, I got a bit distracted and crashed," Juarez said.

Officer Erika Moncada had stopped her patrol car and left the engine running to respond to a fight when Juarez happened upon the vehicle.

Yokohama Rubber holds groundbreaking for Mexico tire plant

The facility is set to begin production in early 2027 with a planned annual output of five million tires.

Yokohama Rubber held a groundbreaking event on April 15 for its new consumer and light truck tire plant at the Alianza Industrial Park in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico. The company said the event was well attended by a crowd of state and local officials, as well as management from Yokohama companies, including YRC Chairman and CEO Masataka Yamishi; Yokohama Corporation North America (YCNA) CEO Shinichi Takimoto; and Yokohama Tire Corporation (YTC) President and CEO Jeff Barna.
