The Bangkok Post reported today that the Linglong Tyre Co. plant in Thailand has been shut down by authorities as they conduct an investigation into the origin of a massive fire that caused an estimated $40 million in damage.
The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand ordered a 30-day suspension of activities at the tire plant at the Hemaraj Industrial Estate. According to the newspaper, the suspension is common in these situations.
The paper noted that six warehouses at the plant were destroyed, and some 700,000 to 800,000 tires, all due for export to the U.S., were damaged, according to a company spokesman.
The manufacturing plant itself was not damaged, reports said.
