Bridgestone Americas has launched its own radio station at its rubber plantation in Liberia.
“Voice of Firestone Liberia” hit the FM airwaves on Feb. 26, in an effort to provide updated information about the plantation and surrounding communities.
“The dedication of another community radio station such as yours today indeed signifies the importance that this government attaches to communication as a tool for dialogue and sustainable development in Liberia,” said Liberia Deputy Information Minister for Technical Services Elizabeth Hoff, who attended the dedication ceremonies.
In remarks, the managing director of Firestone Liberia, Charles Stuart, assured the government that the radio station will be “used for the entertainment and for the education of all of our folks in the Harbel area and to promote agricultural activities and health programs in the Firestone community.”
