Kwik-Fit to Support ‘Think Before You Drive’ Campaign

(Staffordshire, U.K./Tyres & Accessories) Kwik-Fit has pledged its support to Bridgestone’s “Think Before You Drive” campaign, which is its contribution to the United Nations Global Road Safety Week taking place Apr. 23-29.

Throughout the entire week, Kwik-Fit will donate its fitters and premises to conduct free tyre checks on behalf Bridgestone. All motorists are welcome to a free, no obligation tyre check up at any one of Kwik-Fit’s 670 UK centres, without appointment.

Bridgestone’s initiative “Think Before You Drive” advises drivers of the four basic steps to improve safety. These are:

• Always wear a seat belt
• Use a suitable child seat
• Position the head rest correctly
• Ensure your tyres have the right pressure and sufficient tread depth.

Recent research from Kwik-Fit already highlighted that millions of motorists drive around with dangerously low tyre pressures and tyre tread depth – increasing their chance of a blow out and potentially taking more distance to stop than anticipated. Kwik-Fit hopes that this latest pledge from Bridgestone will really inspire motorists into action and check their tyres.

David White, Customer Services director at Kwik-Fit, commented: “People who drive on bald or under pressurised tyres put both their own and other peoples’ lives at risk, and there is simply no excuse for this. While Global Safety Week is a great initiative to bring this issue to the fore we would urge all motorists to regularly have their car tyres checked – not just during this week.”

He continued: “With over 90% of UK motorists being within a 10 minute drive of a Kwik Fit centre, we expect to complete a huge number of tyre safety checks in this week.”

Stressing the importance of having safe tyres, Michael Schumacher, who is an ambassador of the United Nation’s Road Safety Week, once said that on the race track, the performance of his tyres could make the difference between him winning and losing, but that the performance of motorists’ tyres could make the difference between living and dying.

John McNaught, managing director of Bridgestone UK, said: "As we enter our third year supporting the Think Before You Drive campaign, we are pleased that Kwik Fit has come on board to help tyre safety in the UK.

"We are already offering free tyre health checks as part of the campaign and the addition of Kwik Fit stores will ensure that every UK motorist has access to this free and vital advice.”
