Hunter Engineering Co. has installed a collet-manufacturing cell in a St. Louis-area facility, allowing the company to support its growing high-precision wheel balancer business.
According to Hunter, its dual-taper collets provide centering performance to ensure a better balance than traditional cones.
This cell includes two twin-spindle lathes, induction heat-treating device, laser etching and a machine-tending robot, Hunter said.
Additionally, the cell allows Hunter to produce one dual-taper collet every 90 seconds and perform a 100% bore inspection.
After the dual-taper collets are manufacturer, they are sent to Hunter’s Raymond, Miss., plant to join Hunter wheel balancers.
